For nature lovers and ecosplorers, Dune Allen offers trails in the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, as well as three coastal dune lakes. Dune Allen Beach is less populated and congested than some of the other communities to the east. The lower density population is an attraction to many looking for quiet and relaxation.
If retail is your thing, Gulf Place offers the restaurants and shops of Gulf Place Town Center. Take the kids across the street to the beach at Ed Walline Beach access. Gulf Place also offers swimming, tennis, and a jogging trail as part of the community. There are seasonal concerts and events on the green space at Gulf Place.
A favorite vacation spot since 1910, Santa Rosa Beach, offers boutique shopping, family fun, fine dining, and the Point Washington State Forest. Santa Rosa Beach is the only community that is on both the beachside and bayside.
If you’re an artsy sort of person, this may be the town for you. Think local – restaurants, shops, ice cream, and the Blue Mountain art studio for handmade gifts and décor. This beach community may not be a mountain, but it is the highest elevation along 30a and in South Walton Beach.
South Walton’s original beach neighborhood was founded in the mid-1880s. It’s still offering the laid-back, free-spirit attitude one expects from a beach town. Pretty much all of South Walton Beach and 30a dog family yet Grayton Beach takes the cake. The unofficial slogan of Grayton Beach is “Nice dogs, strange people.” For residents, there is an opportunity to get a coveted Beach Permit for your four-wheel-drive vehicles.
This may be your town if you’re an upbeat contemporary who enjoys the blending of architecture and nature. It offers natural beauty with the beach, Western Lake, and Point Washington State Forest. Come home to boutique shopping, a day at the Spa, or a delightful dining experience. Watercolor is the largest planned neighborhood in South Walton Beach.
If you’ve seen Jim Carrey’s 1998 hit film, The Truman Show, then you have an idea of the charm Seaside offers. You won’t find many cars here – just bikes and pedestrians. If you’re looking for a slow-paced, beach retreat make sure to pay a visit to Seaside. There is no shortage of shopping or restaurants around Quincy Circle.
Oak trees, magnolias, and pines give Seagrove a Southern feel while still offering beach town charm. You’ll also find two coastal dune lakes in this Southern beach town. Located next door and to the east of Seaside, Seagrove Beach is only 1.5 miles long but has a lot of style and character.
This enclosed/gated neighborhood is a beach walker’s dream with wide walkways and boardwalks to wander on your way to the beach over the giant sand dunes. To complement the vast sand dunes, Watersound has some of the largest homes in the area. For those looking for a little bit less square footage but still a luxury property, the condos available at The Crossings at Watersound may be what you’re looking for. There is a 7,000-square foot pool for your enjoyment.
For the active beach enthusiast, Seacrest offers dune lakes for kayaking, stand up boarding, and canoeing. Deer Lake State Park is a popular place for biking and hiking. Come back from your day of adventure to grab a bite and share a story at Seacrest’s Peddler’s Pavilion.
The Mediterranean meets the Gulf Coast at Alys Beach, where you will find white stucco buildings, palm trees, and sculpture. You can wander the paths in the 20-acre nature preserve while enjoying incredible landscapes. There are gorgeous solid concrete poured homes located on both the north and south side of 30a. Yet one of the most iconic aspects of Alys Beach is where you see both sides of 30a lined with tall palm trees when approaching the neighborhood. That is when you know that you have arrived.
CNN named this one of America’s most romantic small towns for a reason. The West Indies feel of the neighborhood gives it a charm all its own. Originally the land was part of Inlet Beach but broke apart to its own community around 1995 when the neighborhood was designed. With 107 acres, Rosemary Beach is practically all developed. It’s not likely that you will find a vacant lot in the neighborhood.
Undisturbed nature and sweeping dunes make Inlet Beach stand out. Old meets new with beach cottages and modern homes in this casual, laid-back neighborhood. Inlet Beaches boundaries are Bay County and Lake Powell to the east and Rosemary Beach to the west. It is by far the most up-and-coming neighborhood in South Walton Beach. There is an old fishing pier if you walk on the beach toward Camp Helen State Park.
