Back between 1949 and 1950, he purchased 160 acres in Gulf front property from Mr. JR Moody worth $75,000 at that time. Together with his son, they built a total of five houses in five years that followed the purchase and the sent letters out to friends and family about the secluded romantic getaway under development. Seagrove Village Market Café followed soon after offering drinks and fresh seafood. The Seagrove Beach Village Market Café was knocked down and rebuilt and 2016 right next-door to the original location.
The McGees would later start selling lots at the Gulf front. Believe it or not but they were selling golf front lots for $1000 and interior lots for half the price. It is the tightly knit lively community made up of regular vacationers and permanent residents that would attract interest to Seagrove and make it a popular destination for the holidays too.
