Main Attractions Of Alys Beach

Gulf Of Mexico and the Beach

Sunbathing of Alys Beach is made easy with full beach service available. The gorgeous blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico become a perfect place to cool off on a warm summer day.

Launching a kayak from the beach is a very popular way to explore the Gulf. Also, stand up paddle boarding gives us an upright perspective on the water, bringing close up views of schooling fish, sea turtles, and many other animals who live in the sea. Those who like fishing have plenty of fish to catch the whole year. The pompano, redfish, and the Spanish mackerel being some local favorites.

Caliza Pool and Restaurant

Among many other exciting amenities, Alys Beach's most recognized and revered one is Caliza Pool. After entering, the guests feel as if they have been transported to an exotic oasis. A fully furnished loggia greets the guests and also provides a relaxing shed from the sun. The stairs lead up to a rooftop terrace with a fantastic view of the entire town. The one hundred foot Caliza Pool is the center of attraction of the ensemble. The zero-entry saltwater pool welcomes those who are all set to cool down with a refreshing swim.
When you're ready to grab a bite to eat Caliza's restaurant will quickly serve you up some contemporary American cuisine. Perfect after a day at the beach or shopping at Rosemary Beach. The food is light and healthy. There is also a no better place to enjoy a happy hour drink then the open-air bar.

Make sure that you visit George‘s restaurant on 30a and Alys Beach and be prepared to be swept off your feet. You’ll be greeted with a comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food.

The Beach

The beautiful beaches of Northwest Florida are one of the best in the world. With crystal clear white sands bathed by gentle waves and amazingly blue waters that have attracted travelers for over 60 years. All of Alys Beach's 150 acres are within a short and enjoyable walk of the beach. At Alys Beach you can enjoy a feature of Florida called a sand dune rising nearly thirty feet above the Gulf, giving a brilliant view of beach and sea before rolling down onto soft white sands.

These sand particles were once part of the famous Appalachian Mountains, which weathered over time, turning the hard rock into nearly pure quartz sand that washed down rivers to the sea. This quartz sand is what gives the Destin waters of the Gulf of Mexico its beautiful emerald colors.

In summer, the water temperature is just perfect to coax mother sea turtles ashore to lay eggs at the bottom of the dunes, keeping their old tradition alive. During fall, the sea oats grow tall with heavy seed heads that sway in the breeze bringing many butterflies on the way to their winter home in the rocky mountains of Central Mexico.

Alys Beach amphitheater and parks

Among the town's nine parks, the Amphitheater is the largest, and it provides a wide range of musical and theatrical performances throughout the year. The Amphitheater also offers many fun activities for kids, including dancing fountains.

Parks are an essential part of the town design, and they offer central points of connectivity and recreation to the whole community. Central Park is an excellent location for a family picnic and social gatherings. Gulf Green is the best spot in entire Alys Beach to watch a spectacular South Walton sunset. You can check a map and explore all the parks at Alys Beach to discover which one is your favorite.

Lake Marilyn

Along the northern edge of Alys Beach, the winding shores of Lake Marilyn is a beautiful place to relax and watch the some of the many birds and trees of the nature preserve. The lake does the job of providing irrigation water to parks and landscapes. Lake Marilyn offers massively contrasting elements at its opposite ends. To the south gate, there is an open plaza with a beautiful metal fountain and cherry tree rows that offer perfect spring flowers. At the north gate, Lake Marilyn provides more of a transitional scene of natural beauty.

Nature Trail

The northern end of the town is devoted to a twenty-acre nature reserve. There is an eighteen hundred foot long trail winding its way through the preserve. Most of the nature chair is on a wooden boardwalk that provides a great view of the birds and wildlife present there. The trail begins in a grove of dense slash pine trees and cypress trees, along a beautiful stream that flows from west to east before reaching Lake Powell, one of the rare coastal dune lakes. The pro travelers and tourists never miss the carnivorous pitcher plants with their unusual tube-like leaf structure that captures and digests small insects. This process gives the plants some extra nitrogen in this nutrient poor environment.
